Plot: Death and mayhem visit a shanty town inhabited by Courtney Love, Joe Strummer and The Pogues.
Alex Cox (director): "I'd been trying to put together a Solidarity tour of Nicaragua - to raise money for various causes - featuring The Pogues, Elvis Costello and former members of The Clash. We were all set to go, but couldn't get the money. So we decided to make a film with them instead. Island Records put up the money and instead of going to Nicaragua, we went to Spain."
"The cast got on tremendously well, given that you had some gigantic egos like Dennis Hopper and Courtney. I'm not sure if Spider (Stacy, whistle / vocals) had acted before or not. If he hadn't, then he was extremely able. Shane MacGowan isn't really an actor. It was difficult to explain to him that you had to do things the same way twice. He'd ask why. If Shane had seen a film, then he'd seen a film. Whereas Spider had seen the actors and was quite a good actor as a result."
"I don't know anything about the Spice Girls. I'm old now and it doesn't seem interesting any more. But they're like The Monkees, right? The female Monkees? Am I wrong?"
