A spokeswoman for Liverpool police told NME: "He spent the night (in custody) and was released at around 1pm the following day. He's got to come back to St Anne's Street police station on January 21. It was alleged he'd thrown a mike stand into the crowd causing injury to a man." MacGowan was arrested in his dressing room at the university at around 1am on December 8. A spokesman for the singer claimed MacGowan had hit the patron by mistake. He told NME: "As far as I know, he was swinging his microphone around and accidentally hit someone in the front row." A member of Shane's entourage told nme.com that after the complaint, police searched the venue for the mike stand in question but it had been stolen, presumably say the band, by a person or persons in the audience.
SHANE MacGOWAN spent a night in police cells after being arrested in Liverpool after playing a show there on his and The Popes' current UK tour. He was arrested at the city's university after a man telephoned police claiming he had been hit in the face by a microphone stand MacGowan had allegedly hurled into the audience.
