Maurice's reaction to Shane's interview with the "Irish Mirror" on 6th April.

I stand by everything I said in the "Irish Mirror" article of the 1st April 2004 and I think the article presented the truth about Shane and the band (including Cashman).

I reject absolutely the ludicrous protestations of drugs innocence relating to Shane and the band (including Cashman) made in the "Irish Mirror" article of 6th April 2004 which only serve to undermine Shane's credibility. There is a lot of evidence on the website supporting the statements made in the earlier article and I know what is going on at gigs and elsewhere from contacts and personal experience. Knowledgeable fans also know the score.

Shane has made a lot of progress in dealing with his problem but there is still a long way to go. Abandoning the unsavoury circle would be a big step forward not alone toward solving his problem but also restoring him to his proper place in the music world.

Shane says he has got no reason to sack Cashman. Let me help him with a few that spring to mind:

    1. Shane's career decline.

    2. The absence of an album but not of promises.

    3. Late arrival at gigs.

    4. Cancellation of gigs.

    5. The same set more or less.

    6. Absence of gig strategy.

    7. No proper administration.

    8. No financial controls.

    9. No merchandise.

The owner of the business may still want to retain Cashman but an awful lot of customers do not. The number of signatories is now nearly 2400. I am confident the customers will win and that all of us, including Shane, will reap the benefit. The only losers will be the unsavoury circle who will slither off in search of another soft touch.
