ANDREW CATLIN PHOTOGRAPHS OF SHANE MACGOWAN

Acclaimed music photographer Andrew Catlin has an outstanding collection of photographs of a young Shane MacGowan and The Pogues. The collection opens with a brilliant note from a London members club politely requesting, “Dear Andy, I’d be grateful if you didn’t bring in again the guy who introduced himself as Shane MacGowan.”

Andrew’s photos of Shane and the band span nearly 10 years including the famous Devonshire pub (Camden Town) days, the first European tour, the original ‘Rum, Sodomy & The Lash’ gigs, the filming of ‘Fiesta’ and Shane’s solo ‘Church of the Holy Spook’ days. Enjoy!

‘FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK’ HITS 1 MILLION SALES IN THE UK

The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl’s ‘Fairytale of New York’ has sold over a million copies in UK, becoming the UK’s 126th million-selling single of all time.

Martin Talbot, Managing Director of the Official Charts Company, commented; “It is apt that in the year of its 25th anniversary, ‘Fairytale Of New York’ has entered into the pantheon of the UK’s all time favourite singles to become the latest million selling single in the history of the British charts. It has been a festive favourite ever since it was first released in 1987, so it is great that it can now claim this new honour.”

‘Fairytale of New York’ has re-entered the top 20 of the Official Christmas Singles chart every year for the past 8 years, and is regularly voted the top Christmas single of all time. The song is adored by the public and press alike, with The Observer dubbing it “a secular carol with a spiritual resonance (and) an impregnable slice of dirty realist redemption… Strangely, it’s something to believe in.”

The Pogues were presented with a trophy by their record label to mark the milestone.
